I work for the Production team, which is responsible for managing the build of our quality homes. I specifically work on site at Summerpark in Scotland as a joiner following the successful completion of my apprenticeship.
As an apprentice it was all about learning my trade. I would carry out many different tasks which allow me as a qualified joiner to perform a range of jobs on site. These include first floor joists and roofs to hanging doors and fitting facings and skirtings.
The variety. No two days are the same and it is great to work as part of a team. I also get the opportunity to work independently now that I know my trade.
I chose this career as I have always been interested in construction. This then led to me building an interest in design, craft and graphics in school.
I worked hard at school and gained good grades but the main thing is to find an employer who will support you to learn. That’s why an apprenticeship was great for me. As I learnt I was able to gain valuable experience on site as well as getting paid.
