Building more than homes: our 2024 social value highlights

At Story Homes, our commitment to sustainability goes far beyond bricks and mortar. Every development we build is designed not only to meet the needs of today but also to benefit future generations. Our latest 2024 Social Value Certificate – covering the North West and a portion of our Cumbria region – is a testament to that commitment, and we’re proud to share the positive impact our work has made over the past year.

£524,989 of social value generated

Over the last year, Story Homes generated £524,989 in social value across our operations. This figure reflects our investment in people, communities, and the environment – from local job creation and training opportunities to community engagement and environmental initiatives.

Social Value

Diverting waste and protecting the planet

We achieved an impressive 99.9% diversion from landfill, ensuring that almost all of our construction waste was reused, recycled, or otherwise kept out of landfill. This highlights our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental footprint through smarter waste management.

Skips

Tackling carbon emissions

We prevented 1,489 tonnes of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere through responsible construction practices and sustainability-led decisions. That’s equivalent to the carbon saved by planting around 67,000 mature trees* which is a positive step toward climate resilience.

Supporting local communities

As part of our social value impact, we helped deliver 2,817 meals to those in need, demonstrating our commitment to supporting wellbeing and reducing food poverty across the communities where we build.

Food

Delivering value for every pound

Every £1 we invested in sustainability and social initiatives returned an estimated £2.10 in social value. That’s a powerful reminder that doing good isn’t just the right thing to do, it also makes strong economic sense.

Our mission has always been to create communities where people love to live. That mission includes building sustainably, acting responsibly, and enriching the lives of everyone our work touches.

We are proud of the progress made so far and we’re motivated to keep building a better future.

Notes

*One mature tree absorbs approximately 22 kg (0.022 tonnes) of CO₂ per year. 1,489/0.022 = 67,682 trees
