Local couple join the property ladder after finding their perfect home in Whitehaven

A local west Cumbrian couple from Egremont have purchased their first home together at our development, Edgehill Park in Whitehaven.

Abby Tallentire and Harry Brown opted for The Harper, a spacious 3-bedroom home, which they moved into in October. Speaking about why they chose a new build home at Edgehill Park, Abby said:

“Initially, we thought that new builds might be unaffordable for us, but when we drove through Edgehill Park and saw how well built the homes were, and how nice and quiet the estate was, we booked a viewing to see the show home, The Spencer. As soon as we saw inside this home there was no looking back!

“Our Sales Executive told us about the Help to Buy scheme which was perfect for us. It meant we could reserve with a 5% deposit and not worry about saving for new appliances as everything we needed was included in the specification of the home.”

When discussing why the couple chose The Harper, Abby said:

“The Harper is the perfect size for us, the layout makes the most of the space there is. We looked at other houses before choosing Story Homes and didn’t find them to be as well laid out or spacious. A big selling point for us was the size of the garden and that there was space to park two cars.

“One of our favourite rooms in the house is the kitchen/dining area, we like the open plan layout and there’s plenty of cupboard space. We love the light that comes in from the French doors and it’s been lovely opening these out onto the garden on sunnier days, which fills the living room with light too.

“We also like that the en-suite has a walk-in shower, many of the other homes we saw only had showers above baths.”

The couple moved to Edgehill Park from their hometown of Egremont after saving while living separately with their parents in their family homes. Commenting on the service they received from us, Abby said:

“Both the Sales and Site team have been really helpful and they kept us up to date regularly throughout the build of our home. Before we moved in, they took the time to show us the workings of the house and once we were in, any issues or questions have been dealt with quickly.

“I’ve recommended Story Homes to friends and family who are looking to buy a home, and I would recommend The Harper to anyone looking for their first home too. It’s great for people who are just starting out, especially with the buying schemes that are available, which really help to make it more affordable.”

Help to Buy is a Government backed scheme available on selected Story homes that enables first time buyers to reserve with a 5% deposit and receive an equity loan of up to 20% that is interest free for the first five years.

Hayley Blair, Sales Director for Cumbria and Scotland said: “We are delighted that Abby and Harry are enjoying their new home and were able to benefit from Help to Buy, which continues to be a popular scheme with our customers.

“A new build home is the perfect option for those looking to get onto the property ladder without the need to renovate. With high specification features such as fully integrated kitchens, new appliances and Porcelanosa tiling, you can save money which can go towards a bigger deposit or new furniture for your home.

“It’s great to hear that a The Harper at Edgehill Park was the perfect choice for Abby and Harry, and we wish them every happiness in their new home.”
