Pennington Place to bring economic benefits to the community

July 2019

We are pleased to announce that we will begin works on site at Pennington Place, Ulverston, this August.

The development, which is located just off West End Lane and close to Siemans factory, will comprise 87 new homes including high quality, high specification two, three, four and five-bedroom homes. 35% of the properties on the development will be classed as affordable homes.

The new properties will improve choice across the local housing market and will help increase direct and indirect investment in local shops, services and facilities. The new development will bring economic benefits to the area during the construction phase, including sustaining jobs for local subcontractors and support for local businesses and supply chains. From land purchases and community contributions to materials and marketing, we will invest almost £20m in the construction of the 87 new homes at Pennington Place over the next two years.

As part of the development we will make a number of contributions to the local community, including the following:

  • A contribution of circa £10,000 to be paid to South Lakeland District Council prior to the first occupied home on the development. These funds are to be spent on improvements to existing play equipment at Lightburn Park, located about half a mile from Pennington Place
  • A Community Infrastructure Levy contribution of approximately £540,000 to South Lakeland District Council. These funds are to be spent on local infrastructure (including education) and other projects in the South Lakes
  • A new 2m wide footway will be developed along the northern side of the carriageway which will link to the existing footway currently terminating adjacent to the Leisure Centre via a crossing point
  • A new pedestrian refuge on Priory Road to link the site to the leisure centre, school and shops

Thanks to business growth, we’re now looking for local subcontractors to help deliver this development of high quality new homes in Ulverston.

John Story, Managing Director for Cumbria & Scotland, said: “We are really pleased that we’re able to bring our homes to Ulverston for the first time, and as our business continues to expand across the region, we are looking for subcontractors to help us deliver these new homes at Pennington Place.

“We are proud to be a Cumbrian company and we want to help other local companies build their businesses and their profits as we build our homes. We have very good subcontractor relationships in north Cumbria and we want to build more relationships with those in the south of the county. Whether a big or small business, we are keen to hear from subcontractors across all housebuilding trades.”

If you have a housebuilding trade and are based in the South Lakes area, or are willing to travel, please contact communications@storyhomes.co.uk to find out more information about working with us.
