Revealed: Our Home of the Year 2018

June 2018

For the first time, we are pleased to announce that our Home of the Year is the four-bedroom detached Taunton.

The Taunton has long been one of our most coveted house types across all of our regions. Its popularity with our customers for its external appearance and open, spacious layout made the Taunton the clear choice for Home of the Year.

This house type features four bedrooms, lounge with bay window, light and airy hallway with skylight, and open plan kitchen/dining area spanning the width of the house. The kitchen/dining area is a key feature of the home all year round, but it really comes into its own in the summer with bi-fold doors leading to the paved patio and turfed rear garden, allowing you to bring the outside in and providing a great place for entertaining.

By designing a home with four bedrooms, open plan kitchen/dining areas rather than formal dining rooms, large driveways, and a traditional exterior appearance combined with contemporary interiors, we have ensured that the Taunton meets the requirements of a wide variety of buyers.

In addition, aspects such as the turfed gardens and fully integrated kitchens with quality appliances mean that residents can move in without having to carry out any work – this has increasingly been a key consideration among time-poor buyers, who do not wish to redecorate straightaway or have to commission any work before being able to live in the property.

Andrew Hewson, Head of Group Design at Story Homes, said: “All of the homes we design and build are carefully thought out and regularly reviewed to ensure that they are fit for purpose and meet the needs of today’s buyers, yet are still attractive and stylish in their look and feel.

“The Taunton is a great example of how our experts have worked together to create a home that ticks all the boxes. It is consistently a best-seller across our developments and we have a number of Taunton show homes, as we know that it is a house type people want to look around. We are delighted to announce it as our Home of the Year and we look forward to sharing new ideas and images to show how the space can be used, interior inspiration and real examples of how our customers have made their Taunton their own.”
