Story Homes delivers a lesson on safety and launches creative competition at Coppull Primary School

April 2025

Earlier this month, Pupils at St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School in Coppull were treated to a fun and informative classroom workshop focusing on how to stay safe around construction sites.

Located just five minutes from the school, Story Homes’ Elmbrook Park development provided the perfect opportunity for the housebuilder to connect with the local community through both safety education and a creative new competition.

The Year 1/2 class enjoyed an interactive session led by Darren Lister, Assistant Site Manager at Elmbrook Park. The children learned about the hazards of building sites, the different jobs involved in housebuilding, and why it’s important to stay away from live construction areas.

Each child received a goody bag filled with a safety-themed activity book and crayons to help reinforce what they learned, and the highlight of the visit was a surprise appearance by Builder Bear, Story Homes’ friendly mascot, who brought big smiles and high-fives all around.

In addition to the classroom visit, Story Homes also launched a special competition for the school’s Year 5/6 class. The older pupils have been tasked with designing a children’s bedroom for the upcoming Harrison show home at Elmbrook Park. The design brief focuses on themes of bees, nature and the outdoors, encouraging creativity while highlighting the importance of nature in everyday life. The winning design will be transformed into a real bedroom within the show home this summer, allowing the pupils to see their ideas brought to life and leaving a lasting impression on the development.

Darren Lister said: “It was fantastic to visit St Oswald’s and spend time with such an enthusiastic group of children. They asked brilliant questions and really engaged with the safety message. Since Elmbrook Park is so close to the school, we felt it was important to come in and make sure they understand why building sites are not places to play – no matter how exciting they might look.”

Niall Owens, Headteacher at St Oswald’s, commented: “We’re really grateful to Story Homes for running this workshop with our Year 1/2 class. The children loved the goody bags and meeting Builder Bear, and they’ve come away with a much better understanding of how to keep themselves safe.

“We’re equally excited about the bedroom design competition with our Year 5/6 pupils. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to show off their creativity, and we can’t wait to see the winning idea come to life. A big thank you to Darren and the Story Homes team for supporting and inspiring our pupils.”
