Story Homes named Housebuilder of the Year at Insider North East Property Awards

May 2026

We are thrilled to announce that we have been crowned ‘Housebuilder of the Year’ at the prestigious Insider North East Property Awards, recognising our continued investment, growth and commitment to delivering high-quality homes and communities across the region.

Hosted by Insider Media, the awards celebrate excellence across the North East property sector, highlighting businesses that are making a significant contribution to the region’s built environment and economy.

The award recognises our strong performance during the qualifying period, which saw us deliver 405 homes across eight residential developments.

Building on this success, we are continuing to invest in the region through the delivery of new communities, including ongoing works at Killingworth Gate in North Tyneside and Newlands Hurst in Northumberland, further demonstrating our long-term confidence in the North East housing market.

The judges also recognised the housebuilder’s focus on sustainability, design quality and community impact, alongside its ability to create developments that enhance local areas and deliver long-term value for residents.

A standout example highlighted within the submission was Ashwood Grange in Middleton St George, Darlington – a 260-home development which showcases our commitment to thoughtful placemaking, biodiversity enhancement and sustainable community creation. The development includes significant ecological improvements, sustainable drainage systems, retained wildlife corridors and long-term habitat management designed to deliver measurable biodiversity net gain.

Mark Ferguson, Operations Director for Story Homes North East, said:

“Winning Housebuilder of the Year is a fantastic achievement for everyone across our North East business and reflects the passion, dedication and expertise of our teams and subcontractors.

“As a business, our focus has always been about more than just building houses. We are committed to being a good neighbour, supporting local communities, investing in regional supply chains and creating places people are proud to call home.

“This award is recognition of the hard work and commitment shown across the business and reflects the strength of the developments we continue to deliver across the North East.”

We continue to embed sustainability throughout every stage of development through our Sustainable Story initiative. Homes are designed with energy efficiency in mind and include features such as renewable electricity, energy-efficient appliances, EV charging points and photovoltaic solar panels on selected developments.

Our developments continue to support jobs, infrastructure investment and skills development across the North East, while creating attractive neighbourhoods with green open spaces, play areas and carefully considered design.
