Story Homes submits plans for 140 new homes in Longton

July 2025

New scheme could deliver over £1.7 million in community benefits for local people

We are pleased to announce the submission of a full planning application for a new residential development in the village of Longton, following the success of our nearby scheme, Longton Grange.

With the majority of homes now sold at Longton Grange, this latest development seeks to build on the strong demand for high-quality homes in the area.

The application, submitted to South Ribble Borough Council, proposes 140 new high quality homes and will make an important contribution towards local housing delivery, including the provision of 30% new affordable homes for eligible local people.

Designed to complement the surrounding area, the development will offer a mix of one to six-bedroom properties. From first-time buyers to downsizers or those looking for a ‘forever’ family home, this scheme will deliver much-needed new homes for residents at different life stages.

Josh Dobson-Brear, North West Land Manager for Story Homes, said:

“We are excited to bring forward this new development, which will not only provide much-needed homes in Longton but also deliver significant benefits to the local community. Our previous development, Longton Grange, has been incredibly well received, with the majority of homes now sold, showing the strong demand for high-quality homes in this area. This new scheme will continue to meet that demand while enhancing the local community.

“In addition to high-quality housing, we are dedicated to improving local biodiversity and supporting the local economy through job creation and increased demand for services. By investing in this development, we are ensuring that Longton remains a fantastic place to live for both current and future generations.”

The scheme will also deliver significant community benefits, including over £1.7 million in Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)* contributions to support local services and infrastructure improvements. In addition, new green areas of public open space, including an equipped area of play, will be delivered on-site which will be accessible to the local community, benefitting new and existing residents.

The construction phase will continue to bring further economic benefits to the area, creating direct and indirect employment opportunities through local subcontractors and supply chains. Once completed, the new homes will contribute to increased demand for local businesses and services, further supporting the local economy.

We look forward to working with South Ribble Borough Council as the application progresses.

*Community Infrastructure Levy is a charge which can be levied by local authorities on new development in their area.
