One Great Day in Carlisle

Carnival Week, taking place between 26 and 30 May 2014, will be jam packed with things to do leading up to the charity event ‘One Great Day’.

‘One Great Day’ is raising money for two great causes, Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice and Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Story Homes will be sponsoring a 5ft cut out monster, displayed throughout The Lanes. Make sure you stop by to find the Story Homes monster and have your picture taken with it!

Teams will be competing in a relay static bike ride whilst raising sponsorship for the two charities. The bikes will be positioned at central square in The Lanes and the challenge will be to cycle from The Lanes to Great Ormond Street Hospital – a mere 308 miles.

Carnival Week itself will be filled with many fun activities with food to try, music to dance to, competitions to enter and other surprise events you won’t want to miss. Local hotels will be rustling up tasty treats to try; there will be competitions including colouring for children, crazy golf, zumba; and a real festive atmosphere on show with wearing carnival costumes highly encouraged!

The Carnival will also have some special guest appearances from Hospuss the Eden Valley Hospice Mascot, Sammy Squirrel from Ullswater Steamers and Ratty from the La’al Ratty steam train.

When you’re at the event make sure you watch out for the ‘little monsters’ appearing at The Lanes. The ‘little monsters’ will be helping to fundraise during the week and there are some great colouring competitions to be entered at the ‘colouring zone’ here too.
