Former Dunston Hill Hospital
Proposal
Story Homes has submitted reserved matters proposals for a development of 46 high quality new homes and the site-wide redevelopment of land at the former Dunston Hill hospital, north of the Whickham Highway, Whickham. This brownfield site has been identified by Gateshead Council for redevelopment.
Our proposals would create a sustainable development that would make an important contribution to the Council’s housing supply. The proposed development would deliver a mix of house types including three, four and five-bedroom semi-detached, and detached dwellings of which five three-bedroom homes will be affordable.
Full details of the submitted application can be viewed on Gateshead Council’s website:
- Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust was granted outline planning permission for up to 35 dwellings on the former hospital site with a detailed reserved matters application submitted in 2019 on behalf of the Trust (Ref: DC/19/01048/REM)

The site will provide a range of family homes that will help to meet local housing needs, including the potential provision of five three-bedroom affordable homes within the development.

Local Economy
Our proposals will support existing local businesses and help create additional employment through new opportunities for local sub-contractors and the supply chain.

Public open space
Our proposals will include the creation of new open space for the benefit of local people and new residents alike.

Eco Diversity
We have identified to the north of the site an area of land for ecological mitigation to promote eco diversity and the existing pond on site will be utilised for SUDs and create a wetland habitat
