Four places remain for the Hadrian’s Cycleway Challenge

April 2016

Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland were delighted to meet their team of cyclists taking part in the new C2C cycle event for 2016, The Hadrian’s Cycleway Challenge.

The Meet and Greet Evening was held at The Auctioneer, Carlisle and gave the participants the opportunity to meet their fellow cyclists and the Hospice at Home support teams, gain fundraising and cycling advice and ask questions about the challenge weekend.

Team Hospice at Home!

Cath Coates, Fundraiser for Hospice at Home, said “The Meet and Greet Evening was fantastic and it was great to meet the cyclists who are supporting Hospice at Home and raising vital funds. This annual event on the Charity calendar has been an unbelievable fundraiser and in the past five years has raised over £225,000. This huge sum has enabled our Clinical Team to provide much-needed care within the North and East of Cumbria. This year we hope to raise a further £25,000 which would mean our cycle challenges have collectively raised a quarter of a million pounds to help local patients – a fantastic achievement by all involved.”

This year’s event has kindly been sponsored by Story Homes. Fred Story, Chairman for Story Homes said: “We’re delighted to be able to sponsor the Hospice at Home Hadrian’s Cycleway Challenge this year. The team at Hospice at Home do such a fantastic job caring for people in Carlisle and North Lakeland when they need it most. We’re sure that the bike ride later this year will be a huge success and hopefully raise much needed funds for the charity. I’d like to wish everyone the best of luck with their training”

With the sunshine’s arrival and perfect cycling weather upon us perhaps you may be keen to join this group of cyclists? The camaraderie, sense of achievement and encouragement en route will ensure this is a challenge of a lifetime and a weekend that will never be forgotten!

The event will take place on 17th – 19th June 2016. Cycling support and advice is provided in the build-up and during the weekend by Arragons Cycle Centre. If you would like more information, or would like to join Team Hospice at Home 2015 please visit www.hospiceathome.co.uk or call 01768 210719.

The Hospice at Home service covers 1500 square miles from the Scottish Border to Stainmore and Allonby to Alston. During 2014-2015, the clinical team has cared and nursed 585 patients whilst also supporting their families and carers. These figures relay an increase of 28% on the previous year. The charity is vital and needs to raise £16,558 each week to continue to provide this service.
