Happy in the Hastings at The Silks

October 2016

Empty nesters, Helen and Peter Jones are happy calling their 3-bedroom Hastings home. Their children are grown up and have fled the nest, so it was the right time to find a home that fitted their needs and their visiting family.

Mr and Mrs Jones, are happy in their Hastings

They’ve joined the 10 million parents who have watched their children fly the nest as they have headed off to university and work across the country. So, with the children leaving home and parents enjoying some extra income, many are putting this to good use by splashing out on holidays, savings and moving home.

The family lived in their 3-bedroom home for a number of years and Primary school teacher Helen (41), wanted to move to a new build house. Husband and Lancaster University lecturer Peter (48) was happy in his home and took some convincing to move, until they saw our development The Silks at Galgate, just outside the historic city of Lancaster.

The couple, sold their home and moved in with friends whilst their Hastings was in the final stages of build. They were so excited to move in to their new home, at The Silks, as it offers the best of both worlds, with rural living on the doorstep and the city centre close by. Peter is a keen cyclist so to have the view of the countryside from the windows and being able to cycle on country lanes is ideal.

Helen and Peter, who bought off plan, fell in love with the layout of the 3-bedroom semi-detached Hastings. Helen said: “It’s the nicest three bedroom home we have seen and it’s perfect for us. We have a spacious lounge which fits the whole family in, but my favourite place is the kitchen and dining room. We have only been in our house for four weeks and we have already been entertaining our friends. We are also spending more time together as a couple as Peter will sit in the dining area whilst I am cooking.

“We bought the Hastings house type off plan when The Silks didn’t have any show homes, but as it was Story Homes’ second development in Lancaster we had the confidence to buy at an early stage. This meant we could put our personal touch in to our home with the sales executive. I couldn’t believe what came as standard, especially in the high quality fitted kitchen where I have integrated appliances including a dishwasher, fridge / freezer and washing machine.

“Just before we moved home the oven broke, so it’s a family joke that instead of buying a new oven I bought a new house!”

We loved the fact that Builder Bear was waiting on the stairs when we opened the front door

Peter added: “We have actually enjoyed decluttering and getting ready to move in. The children haven’t seen the house and they are excited to come home in the next few weeks. The Silks is a much better location for us, we’re still close to family and friends. It’s also so close to the motorway which will be better for the children coming home.

“Our initial impression of The Silks was excellent. The stone wall entrance gives the development a wow factor and we just love the views. Tracey our sales executive has been brilliant taking us through every step of buying process right through to the finishing touches of choosing our tiles and colours. Opening the door to our new home to find their mascot teddy bear Builder Bear waiting on the stairs was a great final touch … that’s his spot and he still sits there now.”

The Hastings is a 3-bedroom semi-detached house with a driveway. The home offers a spacious lounge to the front of the house with a striking kitchen and dining area with French doors leading out to the patio and rear garden. Three spacious bedrooms with an en-suite to the master and family bathroom complete the home.

Story Homes’ sales manager Clare Wilson said: “It’s wonderful to see our first families moving in and The Silks coming to life. The neighbourhood feel and community spirit are really coming together, and they live in a great rural village.

“I am so pleased that Mr and Mrs Jones are happy in their Hastings, which is a lovely 3-bedroom family home. The Silks is our second development in Lancaster and is based just outside the city centre offering the best of both worlds.

“Our reputation for building quality homes is growing across Lancaster and the North West. Our homes come with a high quality high specification as standard including integrated appliances at no extra cost. Our development boats a superb collection of 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes including apartments, terraced, bungalows, semi-detached and detached properties – meaning there is something for everyone.”
