Housewarming ideas to help celebrate your new home

August 2014

A housewarming party is the perfect chance to show off your sparkly new home, meet the new neighbours and celebrate the start of a brand new chapter. We’re big on special celebrations at Story Homes and have put together a list of ideas that’ll help you to mark this magical occasion.

A garden gathering

Low key and fuss free, a barbeque is a great option (weather permitting!) Let the grill do the work and serve finger-food that you can prep the morning of the party – it’s a sure-fire way to keep you out of the kitchen and mingling with your guests. Balloons and bunting make for perfect outdoor decorations – match your straws; plates and napkins to your colour scheme for a cheat that’ll make it look like you’ve spent much more time obsessing over the details than you really have. Keep the kiddies entertained with a soft play area and dress-up box, and you’ll be free to show off your Story Home with a full tour for each of your guests

Brunch and bubbles

Gathering your nearest and dearest for brunch is a great way to keep your celebration a small, snug and intimate affair. Brilliant for the party shy, a mid-morning get together with smoked salmon, and poached eggs or pancakes with bacon and maple syrup (plus a cheeky glass of bubbly!) will mean you don’t have to slave over the stove to celebrate in style with the people that matter most – its minimal effort with maximum reward.

Wine tasting with plenty of cheese

Who can resist a good wine and cheese selection? This is the perfect type of party to get all of your guests involved. Ask them to bring a bottle of their favourite tipple or block of cheese and you’ll have a weird and wonderful mix for everyone to get stuck into. If you really want to impress – hire a local wine Sommelier who can come along to teach your guests a thing or two about the perfect combo to get your taste buds tingling. And there you have it, three ideas with a bit of a difference to get you started with planning your own housewarming.
