A local couple from Darlington were able to purchase their perfect new Story home in Middleton St George, thanks to our Help to Buy scheme.
Paul Holloway, a Company Director and his wife Jill, a Finance Administrator purchased the four-bedroom, detached ‘Taunton’ show home at Paddocks View back in December, just in time to celebrate their first Christmas in the new property with their two children – Mia, 10 and Cody, 5.
The couple immediately fell in love with the Taunton’s double height hallway, which is flooded with light thanks to the skylight window. The overall size of the property and the fact it had been beautifully decorated by an expert interior designer sealed the deal for Paul and Jill, who snapped up the show home.
Jill said: “We were living in a three-bedroom property in Darlington and needed more space, but really didn’t want to extend. We had looked at a few new-build homes a couple of years ago but couldn’t afford it at that time.”
Paul continued: “We needed to find a new home as soon as possible and we hadn’t realised the show home at Paddocks View was for sale. It turned out to be the perfect fit for us as the show home came fully furnished and we could move straight in.
“The Story Homes Sales Executive Sue actually sold us our first property with a different housebuilder 10 years ago, so it was quite fitting that we came full circle and were once again purchasing our new home from her.”
The family opted to use the Help to Buy scheme to purchase their new home. Paul explained: “We used Help to Buy which was all very easy and Story Homes made the whole process stress-free. The scheme helped us with cash flow and allowed us purchase the property straight away.”
Help to Buy allows buyers to reserve a home with a deposit starting from just 5% of the total purchase price. The government will lend the buyer up to 20% of the value of the new home via an equity loan, so they will only need a 75% mortgage. The equity loan is interest-free for five years and it can be paid back at any time or upon the sale of the home.
