Proposals for new Galgate homes open for public feedback

October 2014

A development of new homes in Galgate, Lancaster will deliver affordable homes and create jobs for local people.

Award winning house builder Story Homes will consult with the public about a potential new development in Galgate. This would include up to 72 new homes with up to 28 of these classed as affordable for local people, using criteria set by Lancaster City Council.

Story Homes, the company responsible for the new build element of the Lancaster Moor Hospital redevelopment, is proposing to build the homes on land off Stoney Lane. The Council’s local plan has identified Galgate as an area suitable for some of the many new homes which the city will require to meet rising demand in the coming years. The council also recognises that new homes are much needed across the district to tackle the significant local shortfall.

The proposed development is expected to create upwards of 30 jobs for local people during the construction phases plus the new homes owners will further economic spending in local shops and services, benefitting local businesses.

Members of the public are invited to come along to an event on Tuesday 11 November to, meet the team and make comments about the plans.

Story Homes’ Development Planner David Hayward said: “This is a very early stage in the process and we are keen to hear local people’s views from the outset. The public exhibition is an opportunity for the community to come forward with comments and suggestions to help us shape our plans for development in Galgate. We look forward to working with the community in advancing the detailed proposals.”

Story Homes is well known in the North of England and South West Scotland as a builder of aspirational family homes. These beautifully finished high quality and high specification homes are built using local materials and labour where possible, creating a community which integrates well with its surroundings.

Story Homes Lancaster Moor development, known as High Wood, was recently shortlisted for a UK Property Award, hailing the scheme as one of the best in Lancashire.

The public exhibition for new homes in Galgate will take place on Tuesday 11 November between 3pm and 8pm at Ellel Village Hall, Main Road, Galgate, Lancaster LA2 0LQ.
