Sponsoring awards for talented and motivated children

June 2015

The third annual U Can Shine Awards took place in Carlisle at The Sands Centre during June.

The events, held over three nights, celebrated the achievements and successes of children from ten schools across Cumbria.

Story Homes was overall sponsor of the U Can Shine Awards events and also sponsored two award categories: the Self-motivation Award and the Against All Odds Award.

U Can Shine is a development programme for primary school children and is spearheaded by Shaun Weatherhead. Shaun works tirelessly in schools to ensure that the children gain vital skills and grow in confidence to help them develop successfully at school. He organises the U Can Shine Awards to not only celebrate their achievements but to showcase their talents. He approached Story Homes for support several months ago.

“I contacted Story Homes as we had worked together on another initiative with Petteril Bank Community School, which proved to be a fundamentally life changing experience for the children,” Shaun said.

“Story Homes has been very supportive and we really appreciated Fred Story coming along to one of the events to give a fantastic motivational and inspiring talk.”

Chairman Fred Story attended the event on Tuesday 23 June and afterwards said: “Story Homes is really proud to be supporting the awards. These events are important, as they not only inspire the children, but also those involved in the event: the schools and the parents.

At Story Homes, we consider ourselves to be a key part of the community and it’s really important to us to support and encourage children in their ambitions.”
