Stay safe on the roads

November 2016

With the unpredictable British weather, you never know when the temperature might drop. With temperatures dropping below 7°c, now is the best time to prepare with winter wheels, tyres and accessories. Different weather conditions create different hazards throughout the Winter, all of which you could experience in one single journey.

Many people are under the impression winter tyres are made just for snow, however they are designed to be more effective than regular tyres in temperatures below 7°c. They can reduce braking distance by up to 45% in colder conditions due to the special compound and tread pattern used.

It’s a good idea to have your car checked before the winter starts, particularly the anti-freeze, lights and tyre conditions. Even if this has been done, it is always useful to have a winter care kit including top-up fluids at hand just in case. Key fluids to keep in your car would be de-icer and screen wash for any sudden drops in temperature, and it would always be advised to have a litre of top up oil. Leave extra time for a journey in the winter to compensate for any build-up of traffic or icy conditions too.
