Construction officially starts on the town’s second Story Homes development
We have officially started construction at Millfields, marking the beginning of a new development of 111 high-quality homes in Ulverston. This scheme follows the success of our first Ulverston development, Laurel Place – a completed 92-home scheme that is now home to a thriving and well-established community
Located on land at West End Farm, the Millfields development was granted planning permission by Westmorland & Furness Council in March 2025 and will deliver a mix of one- to six-bedroom homes, including 35% affordable housing for local people. In addition, Story Homes will contribute over £900,000 towards Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)* projects as identified by the Council.
Adam McNally, Senior Land & Planning Manager for Story Homes in Cumbria & Scotland, said:
“Breaking ground at Millfields is an exciting milestone for Story Homes and the wider Ulverston community. This development will provide a wide range of homes for all stages of life, along with green spaces and attractive street scenes designed to enhance the local area. We’re proud to be creating a thriving neighbourhood that will benefit residents for years to come.”
The construction phase is expected to bring significant benefits to the local economy, with employment opportunities for subcontractors and suppliers across the region. On-site works are now underway, with the first homes anticipated to be ready in 2026.
*Community Infrastructure Levy is a charge which can be levied by local authorities on new development in their area.
