We are delighted to have received a revised planning permission for Phases 6 and 7 at our Edgehill Park development in Whitehaven, securing consent for the delivery of 158 homes and marking the next chapter of the development.
Phase 6 at Edgehill Park will see the introduction of a new collection of house types – a contemporary sub-brand created to respond to modern lifestyles and evolving housing needs.
The new collection has been designed to complement the way people live today, offering a modern twist on a Georgian-style terrace. With statement detailing, flexible layouts and a fresh, progressive feel, the collection is aimed particularly at first-time buyers and downsizers seeking homes that are easy to manage, well-located and thoughtfully designed for everyday living.
Today’s lifestyles are more dynamic, social and convenience-driven than ever before, and the new house type designs respond directly to these priorities. Homes feature well-considered, open plan layouts that support flexible modern living, alongside manageable private outdoor space, complemented by carefully designed public open spaces.
The new house type collection is designed for residents who may not want the burden of maintaining large private gardens, making high-quality public open space a vital element of the scheme. Well-designed and purposefully positioned green spaces will provide attractive areas for relaxation, social gatherings and fitness, helping to create a strong sense of community.
Philip Fell, Land Manager for Story Homes Cumbria & Scotland, said:
“We’re delighted to have secured planning consent for the next phases at Edgehill Park. Whitehaven has been an important location for Story Homes for many years, and Phase 6 represents an exciting step forward with the introduction of our new collection of house types. It’s been rewarding to see how our developments have evolved to reflect changing lifestyles while continuing to deliver high-quality, well-designed homes.”
The new collection also reflects our commitment to sustainability and efficient land use. By focusing development in well-connected locations close to local amenities and public transport links, schemes can support reduced parking requirements and encourage walking and cycling. Homes will incorporate energy-efficient features and innovative heating systems, helping to reduce overall energy consumption and lower household energy bills, while meeting Future Homes standards and supporting the UK’s wider sustainability goals.
Creative design and gentle-density layouts will ensure land is used efficiently, helping Local Authorities meet much-needed housing targets in a sustainable way, while delivering homes that align with evolving planning policies and suit the lifestyles of today’s buyers.
The newly approved phases will continue our long-standing presence in Whitehaven, where we have been building for over 15 years. During this time, we have delivered both direct and indirect employment opportunities for hundreds of people and have made a positive contribution to the local economy and community, while continually raising expectations around design quality and specification.
Philip continued:
“Edgehill Park is now home to hundreds of residents, and it’s fantastic to see the development continue to grow. These new house types are an exciting addition, offering homes that are practical, flexible and ideally suited to the way people want to live today. We’re proud to continue delivering homes in Whitehaven that meet the needs of both current and future buyers.”
