Joint proposals for more than 200 high quality new homes at Middleton St George have been resolved to be approved by Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee.

We are proposing to build 112 two and four bedroom semi-detached and detached homes as part of the proposals on land next to Sadberge Road.
This will add to the choice of high quality housing in the area, using sustainable, traditional designs, in keeping with the character of the area.
Reserved matters permission for a joint proposal with Miller Homes, to build 234 homes in total, was resolved to be granted following outline planning permission for redevelopment of the site being granted in 2015.
The proposals for the site, which is bordered by the A67 and lies around 6km from Darlington town centre, incorporate landscaping, including tree-planting, the creation of public spaces and features to encourage wildlife and biodiversity.
Richard Newsome, Planner at Story Homes, said: “We are delighted with the planning committee’s decision to resolve to grant approval for our proposals which will allow us to bring our award winning homes to Middleton St George.
“In resolving to approve the application the committee recognised the quality of the plans to deliver an attractive and safe environment with a range of new homes which will contribute to meeting the need for housing in the borough.
“We look forward to bringing our award winning, high specification family homes to the area in the future.”
As part of the proposals, Story Homes will contribute towards expanding the local school to cater for pupils from the new development, and highways and pedestrian network improvements.
The proposals will also support work to protect and enhance the heritage of the route of the Stockton and Darlington Railway to the south of the site.
We will also look to support existing local businesses and create employment through new opportunities and the nearby supply chain in the building of the development.
