Work has now started on a development of new homes in the town of Appleby.
Developer Story Homes has started remediation works on the site, off Cross Croft in the town, to prepare the area for building work to begin.
The development, to be known as Orchard Place, will bring 142 new homes to the town on land which was allocated for housing by the Council.
The homes have been designed in keeping with the local heritage and will be finished with a mix of red sandstone, render and brick.
Frank Lincoln, Production Director for Story Homes said: “The new homes in Appleby will start to take shape later this year as we start work on the foundations of the first few homes. Site work at present includes ground preparation, installation of services and drainage and also improvements to site access.
“A number of sub-contractor opportunities will be created throughout the life of the construction of the site, brining benefits to the local economy too.”
Story Homes is already working closely with the community in Appleby and has donated funds to the ‘Appleby Smarter’ initiative to improve the appearance of the railings on Drawbriggs Lane. Much of the work supported by Appleby Smarter and the Chamber has been carried out by the Probation Service Payback Team.
Orchard Place will bring 16 different property types to Appleby, including apartments, terraced, semi-detached and detached homes, offering 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms. Story Homes is renowned for building high quality homes, as well as excellent levels of customer care.
