Applications now open for our 2018 Apprenticeship and Graduate Programmes

February 2018

We are pleased to launch our Apprenticeship Programme and Graduate Programme for 2018, and we are inviting young people interested in entering the construction industry to apply for our September intake.

We will be recruiting apprentice bricklayers and joiners this year for our sites in Cumbria and the North West. The successful candidates will be able to learn their trade while developing communication and teamwork skills, training towards an NVQ Level 2 and being supported by a dedicated team of site managers and the CITB.

Applications are now open and, once candidates have been shortlisted, the next steps will be a telephone interview and team assessment day. After being offered a position, our apprentices will then kick off their Story career in September by taking part in a five-day team building and induction programme.

We launched our Apprenticeship Programme in 2016, with the aim of recruiting the brightest and most passionate school and college leavers from 16 years and upwards. As part of the scheme we offer a full development programme, including on-the-job training and the potential to move into trainee site management at the end of a successful programme.

As part of our Graduate Programme we have positions available for a Digital Specialist and a Graphic Designer in our Carlisle head office. Now in its fourth year, the programme has proved very beneficial both for the graduates and for our business, with many of the young people recruited securing full-time positions with us.

Shelley Hayward, Talent and Development Manager at Story Homes, said: “As a rapidly growing housebuilder we recognise the importance of playing our part in addressing the skills shortage in the construction industry, and by providing young people with sustainable positions and training programmes we can find the next generation of talent to continue Story Homes’ growth.

“Following on from the success of last year’s Apprenticeship and Graduate Programmes, we are delighted to be recruiting once again and are looking forward to meeting the potential recruits. By joining an expanding and fast-paced business like ours, our apprentices and graduates can not only earn while they learn, but they are also well-placed to take advantage of a variety of career opportunities during their time with us.”
