Local family swap city life for the idyllic village of Thursby

November 2018

A local family have been able to secure their perfect new property at St Andrew’s View, Thursby thanks to Story Homes. Shaun Robins, a contract supervisor and his wife Rachel, a support worker, moved into their new four-bedroom home in August this year along with their son Josh, 18 and daughter Holly, 13.

Discussing their new detached home, a ‘Wellington’ house type, Shaun said: “The ‘Wellington’ ticked virtually all of the boxes for us and this particular plot suited us really well.  Not only does it have the sun in the back garden, but also the plot itself is quite large giving us a huge driveway – which is extremely handy being a three-car family.”

Shaun and his family moved to St Andrew’s View from a three-storey home near London Road in Carlisle. Shaun said: “We decided to move because we needed somewhere bigger and to have a fresh start. Our son Josh is 18 and was in a small bedroom so it felt a little cramped for him. Now his new room has all the luxuries he needs such as speakers, a double bed, built in wardrobes and fibre optic broadband and he is in his element – I don’t think he will ever leave home!”

He continued: “We appreciated that as a family we were going to have to make some sacrifices living out of Carlisle city centre, for example taking Holly to school as she used to get a bus. However we absolutely love it here in Thursby and wouldn’t change it for the world.”

The family had originally secured a plot with another housebuilder but had a number of reservations, so kept looking for their ideal home. They then visited the Story Homes St Andrew’s View development and were impressed with the quality and style of houses on offer.

Shaun said: “In comparison to other builders, we felt Story Homes was streets ahead. With the quality of features and the way that the show home was dressed, we were given a real feel for how our own home could look.”

After some considered conversations, the family decided to go back and see the sales executive the following day and secured a plot at St Andrew’s View.

Regarding the family’s favourite features of their new home, Shaun said: “We love the quality of the fixtures and fittings in our new home – for example, concealed cisterns, contemporary bathroom sinks, taps and tiles all add a ‘wow’ factor. The kitchen / dining space with the bi-fold doors makes for an amazing light and airy room. The cupboard space in the kitchen is fantastic too – we can’t find enough things to fill them. Features such as the five-hob gas burner and the double built-in oven really make our kitchen stand out.”

He continued: “We are also in love with the development itself, with its block paved roads, plus there will be a nice grassed area with trees opposite us once it’s finished. It is also refreshing to hear the sound of church bells ringing, as opposed to police / ambulance sirens which is what we heard when we lived in Carlisle city centre – it’s the little things that make a big difference.”

When reflecting on his experience with Story Homes, Shaun concluded: “I have recommended Story Homes to friends and family, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend again. Sam, the sales executive that we dealt with was an absolute star – a credit to Story Homes. Nothing felt transactional with her – it all had a personal touch. She took a real interest in the type of house we chose, the selections for our home and she has continued to do so since we moved in. We have to say that without doubt, our dealings with Sam were also a deciding factor in us purchasing a Story Home.”

The site manager Barry and his assistant Andrew have been really helpful too and again, have given that personal touch – stopping by on their way past to ensure we are all ok and have no issues. This has happened numerous times and it makes it feel like everyone cares.”
