Plans passed for new homes in Galgate, Lancaster

August 2015

Galgate 1Plans to build 71 new family homes have been approved by Lancaster City Council.

The development in Stoney Lane in Galgate will see a mix of two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom semi-detached and detached houses built by Story Homes. Up to 40 per cent will be ‘affordable’ — designated for local people.

The site will also include a public open space and play area, which the whole community will be able to use.

The scheme was approved subject to the completion of the legal agreement by Lancaster City Council’s Development Management Committee in June, with 13 members voting in favour and one abstention. The legal agreement has now been completed and the council has issued the Decision Notice.

David Hayward Development Planner for Story Homes said: “We welcome the Council’s decision to grant permission for our proposals to build 71 new homes in Galgate.

“Story Homes already has a proven track record for delivering successful communities, including High Wood, the new build element of the Lancaster Moor Hospital project, which received a national industry award last year.

“We look forward to working in Galgate and bringing more of our high quality homes to the Lancaster area in the very near future.”

The development will also create a number of employment opportunities for local contractors, with positive knock on effects for the local supply chain and other local businesses and services.

We submitted the planning application in February following a public consultation, where members of the public had the opportunity to find out more about the plans and make suggestions and comments. The house builder was advised on planning for the development by Manchester based Barton Willmore.

Barton Willmore Partner Dan Mitchell said: “This is a fantastic result for Story Homes and the city of Lancaster, as this represents a truly sustainable development. Story Homes has been working closely with Lancaster City Council over the last few years to help the council deliver much needed new homes.”

We are a Carlisle based family grown business with more than 27 years of experience in developing land and communities, renowned in Cumbria, The North East and Lancashire for building high quality and high specification homes.
