Customer case study: Home Move scheme

August 2022

We’re shining a spotlight on our customer, Mabel Wright, who moved into her new home, The Sanderson, at Elston Park in Grimsargh with her cockerpoo, Harry in September last year.

Now living on her own, Mabel was looking to downsize to a low maintenance home when she spotted her perfect plot at Elston Park. The plot she chose was available with our Home Move scheme which she used to help sell her previous property so she could secure her new Story home stress-free.

Read our Q&A with Mabel to find out how Home Move helped alongside why she chose the beautiful 4-bedroom Sanderson and Elston Park.

Tell us about your move and what made you choose Elston Park?

“I was looking to downsize. At the time, I lived in an older property which started to need things doing to it, like new electrics, which would have cost money to fix. It was also much bigger and now that it’s just me, I wanted something more manageable.

“My son told me about D’Urton Manor and suggested I visit the development to have a look there as it was just around the corner from my old house. That’s when I came across Elston Park which was another Story Homes’ development nearby that was offering Home Move.

“Grimsargh is a lovely, quiet village with a pub and a few restaurants. It’s very private. There’s a village hall and green which is nice. People always say hello when I’m out walking, it’s really friendly.

“My house is just a few steps away from Elston Lane which is all farm fields with cows and sheep, so you get that real country feel. I even saw deer walking over the wetlands the other day which was lovely.”

How did our Home Move scheme help?

“The Home Move scheme was great. I didn’t have the hassle of selling my home on my own and there were no estate agent fees to pay either.”

Would you recommend our Home Move scheme to others?

“Yes, using the scheme saved me the worry just knowing professionals that Story Homes had used before were doing the hard work for me. They even helped me source my energy certificate for my old home.

“It all happened so quickly too. I went to see the Sales Executive, Joanne, and the following day a leaflet came through my door about Elston Park, so it really felt like it was meant to be. Joanne organised for someone to come and value my previous property which was all straightforward. I was happy with the price and in less than a week I had sold my house and reserved my new Story home.

“The best thing was having the support on what to do and who to contact, it made it easy.”

Why did you choose The Sanderson?

“Although I don’t need four bedrooms as it’s only me, there’s flexibility to use them in different ways, like having one as a home office. It’s also handy to have plenty of space for the children and grandchildren to stay, especially at Christmas. In the future, my sons will find it easier to sell a 4-bedroom home, so I chose it for that reason too.

“I think the windows are a great size and it’s brilliant having a side door into the utility room where I can dry the dog after a walk.

“I added some extras to my home to make it perfect for me, like a different coloured splashback and a frost-free fridge/freezer.”

Why did you choose a new build over a second-hand property?

“I’d much rather have a new build over a second-hand home. With an older property, you just don’t know if you’ll have to spend money to put things right. You could go out of the frying pan into the fire and move from a house that needed work to another house that needs even more work. It could cost you as much or more to get it how you want it as it could to buy a new build home.

“With a new build you know everything’s new, so you know where you are with it. You have peace of mind that the heating system and electrics are all in working order. Plus, there’s the 10-year builder’s warranty for extra security if anything does crop up.”

How are you finding the energy efficiency of a new build?

“The energy efficiency in this home is great, it’s very well insulated and sometimes it even feels like the heating’s on when it’s not. I’m paying the same price for energy as my previous property, and considering energy costs have risen recently, it must mean my home is energy efficient.”

Would you recommend a Story home to your friends and family?

“I would absolutely recommend Story Homes. Joanne, the Sales Executive at Elston Park, was excellent with me, she wasn’t pushy at all and helped me every step of the way.”
