We recently welcomed a special guest to our Elmbrook Park development, as 10-year-old William Emery from St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School saw his winning bedroom design brought to life in the brand-new Sanderson show home.
William’s creative concept, based around bees, nature and the outdoors, was selected as the winner of a design competition run earlier this year by Story Homes. His imaginative ideas helped shape the overall look and feel of the children’s bedroom in the new show home, inspiring a vibrant colour scheme and a nature-inspired theme throughout the space. Thoughtful finishing touches such as a “Bee You” wall feature, flower-themed cushions, and carefully chosen decorative details bring warmth and personality to the room, perfectly reflecting William’s vision of a playful and welcoming space for children.
William was invited along to see the finished room with his friends Mikey and Evan, where they enjoyed exploring the new show home and discovering how his ideas had been brought to life.
To mark the occasion, William’s original entry has been professionally framed and now proudly hangs on the wall of the show home bedroom. We also treated him to a gift card so he can buy himself to some new LEGO – a well-deserved reward for his creative effort.
The design competition was part of a wider initiative between Story Homes and St Oswald’s, which began with a classroom workshop focused on construction site safety. The visit aimed to educate younger pupils about the dangers of building sites, while inspiring older students with a real-world design challenge.
Richard Kitson, North West Sales Director for Story Homes, said:
“It’s been a pleasure to work with the pupils at St Oswald’s. William’s design captured the fun and creativity we were looking for, and while we weren’t able to include every element, his ideas definitely helped inspire the final look of the children’s bedroom. Seeing his framed artwork on the wall is a great reminder of how valuable community partnerships can be.”
Niall Owens, Headteacher at St Oswald’s, added:
“We’re incredibly proud of William and so pleased to see his work displayed and recognised in such a special way. This whole initiative – from the safety workshops to the design challenge – has been a brilliant experience for our pupils. We’re very grateful to Story Homes for making it possible.”
