Work is now underway to turn a brown field site in Whitehaven into a development of 40 new high quality homes.
Developer Story Homes has started remediation works on the site of the former Marchon factory, off High Road, to prepare the area for building work to begin.
The Marchon site has been gradually cleared since the factory closed in 2005 and the final stage was the demolition of the dilapidated Tamar Buildings in a joint effort by Copeland Borough Council and Story Homes in 2012.
Frank Lincoln, Production Director for Story Homes said: “Work has already started to prepare the site for the new homes, including creating a safe access on the highway. Work will begin on the foundations of the first few properties at the start of November 2014.
“Bringing this brown field site back into use is beneficial for the nearby community and is already creating direct and indirect jobs through subcontractors and the supply chain.”
The new development, to be known as Waters Edge, follows on from the success of Story Homes’ nearby Magellan Park development, also off High Road. Demand for new homes in the town is evident with many locals already registering interest in buying a new home at Waters Edge.
