Sunderland

Status: Open to comment

Application Type: Consultation

Proposal

Story Homes is preparing a full planning application for the development of 62 high-quality new homes on land east of Queen Alexandra Road, Sunderland.

The site is located in south Sunderland, an area identified for growth within the adopted Local Plan. It comprises two parcels of land, including the existing NHS Eye Hospital site, which is due to relocate to its new Specialist Eye Hospital at Plater Way in July 2026. Following the relocation, the existing buildings will be demolished as part of the site’s redevelopment.

The northern parcel is currently allocated as Open Space but has not been in use or publicly accessible since 2002.

Before submitting the planning application, Story Homes is inviting local residents and stakeholders to view the proposals and provide feedback. The consultation will run for three weeks from 6 July until 27 July 2026.

Further information can be found on the detailed project consultation page.
