Dream home secured with Help to Buy scheme

January 2014

After renting for six years, James and Debbie Boyd were looking for a family home of their own. When they heard that Story Homes were offering the newly launched Help to Buy (Scotland), they jumped at the chance to buy a new home at Summerpark, Dumfries.

James and Debbie Boyd, both 31, and their two children are thrilled to have a date to move into their new home at the start of 2014. The couple, along with daughter Finlay, 10 and son Hayden, seven, have chosen a four bedroom detached ‘Braemar’ house type at Summerpark. After making the decision to buy a new home following six years of renting and saving for a deposit, they were able to make the most of the Government initiative Help to Buy (Scotland).

James, a process worker, said: “We were already looking at properties when we heard that the scheme had launched in October. We rang Story Homes at Summerpark and they confirmed they could offer the Government scheme on their homes. It’s the right thing for us to do because it means that we can buy a well equipped home for our family that has everything we were looking for. We haven’t had to compromise on anything at all.”

Debbie, a service advisor at Police HQ said: “I pass Summerpark every day on my way to work and the houses are lovely. We know of people who have already bought a Story Homes and they don’t have any complaints at all. After renting for six years we wanted a home of our own. The new houses are close to the high school we want our children to attend in the next few years so it makes sense to be nearby.”

Debbie added: “Once we knew Story Homes could offer us the Help to Buy Scotland scheme we had a look around the two show homes and set our hearts on the ‘Braemar’ house type. We knew right away that this was the house for us so after talking to the independent financial advisor and getting our finances lined up, we reserved the next day. Help to Buy has helped us to secure a home for the future. It’s amazing to know that this will be ours and it’s not just a house, it’s a real home where our family can grow and we can make some amazing memories.

“The whole process was very quick and easy and Ann and Fiona have kept us up to date and on track with everything we had to do. The financial advisor explained Help to Buy (Scotland) to us step by step and answered all of our questions. Everybody at Summerpark seems to be very happy and the houses and the area itself seems to be very family orientated. We can’t wait to move in!”
