Plans submitted for new family homes in South Lakeland

December 2014

Detailed plans for two new developments of family homes in South Lakeland have now been submitted to South Lakeland District Council.

Carlisle based house builder Story Homes has submitted the plans for 35 new homes on land at Brigsteer Road, in the west of the Kendal. Plans for 141 new homes in Swarthmoor have also been submitted.

The Brigsteer Road site forms part of the Stainbank Green allocation for residential development in South Lakeland District Council’s adopted local plan.

Following a consultation period with the public, Story Homes has drawn up detailed plans for the 35 high quality family homes, including approximately 12 properties designated as affordable for local people. The plans would also include a new footpath link from the site along Brigsteer Road.

Many respondents to the consultation stated the importance of the new homes fitting in with the surrounding area. Story Homes has responded by designing a scheme with large areas of public open space and high-quality landscaping, to complement the nearby Lake District National Park.

Story Homes Development Planner David Hayward said: “This site has already been allocated for housing and we have prepared our application in close consultation with the Council and in accordance with the emerging draft Development Brief for the wider allocated site which is known as Stainbank Green.

“Development will bring a number of benefits to the area including job creation and security for local sub contractors and a knock on effect for the local supply chain.”

The proposed development in Swarthmoor would deliver 141 new homes on land also allocated by the authority for housing. Story Homes has worked with SLDC to shape the development brief over the last few months. As well as providing up to 35% of homes designated as affordable for local people, the development would also generate new jobs both directly and indirectly including opportunities for local sub contractors and the supply chain, as well as bringing economic benefits for the local area.

Story Homes’ is renowned for designing and building developments which are in keeping with the local surroundings, through the use of local materials and design cues. Story Homes has been operating in Cumbria for more than 27 years and recently opened its first ever development in Kendal.

‘The Beeches’ off Natland Road in the town has been popular with buyers since its first exclusive launch event was held in Autumn, with one buyer queuing overnight to secure her dream home.
