Creating a host house like no other this Christmas

December 2023

Decorating your home for Christmas is something many of us can’t wait to do, but with so many colour schemes, Christmas lights, baubles and decorations to choose from, you might be wondering where to begin. So what better place to look for some inspiration than a Story show home dressed for Christmas…

Our Interior Design partners, Show Business Interiors, have transformed the 5-bedroom Cranford show home at Brigsteer Rise into a winter wonderland ready for the festivities. We caught up with one of the stylists to find out about decorating the show home and steal some top tips for creating a magical Christmas in your own home.

Dressing a show home for the festivities

“The natural colour palette in The Cranford made it the perfect setting for a calm and cosy Christmas. Drawing inspiration from the magnificent surroundings of Kendal, by incorporating Christmas décor inspired by the great outdoors.”

Top tips for styling your home at Christmas

Tip 1: Nature-Inspired Elements:

“Embrace the natural ambience of the great outdoors in your Christmas décor by incorporating elements inspired by the outdoors.

Integrate natural decor like frosted pinecones, greenery and artfully crafted tree-shaped sculptures to infuse a sense of festive charm. Embracing these locally inspired elements brings a touch of the region’s beauty into your space.”

Tip 2: Layering Technique

“Elevate your interior design by mastering the art of layering. Experiment with a variety of fabrics, such as rich throws, plush blankets, and strategically placed cushions. This not only adds visual depth but also introduces a tactile dimension, transforming your space into a cosy haven of warmth and style.”

Tip 3: Texture Harmony

“Create a refined atmosphere by skilfully balancing an array of textures in your decor. Combine smooth fabrics and textured fabrics to create a sensory-rich environment. This attention to texture not only enhances visual interest but also elevates the overall ambience, ensuring your Christmas setting is both aesthetically pleasing and inviting.”

Which room in The Cranford show home would be your go-to over the festive period?

“Aside from the living room which is the definition of a cosy Christmas, I also love the kitchen/dining area. I feel the space and the tablescape makes a perfect setting for a Christmas get-together.”
