Are you reservation ready?

October 2022

Buying a new home is one of the most exciting purchases you’ll make and when it’s a Story home, it’s even more special. But, because you don’t buy a new home every day, you may have lots of questions about the reservation process and what to expect throughout the journey.

To help make things easy, we caught up with our Sales Manager, Rebecca Drinkwater, on our top tips to make sure you’re ready to secure your new home. Watch the video or read our Q&A below.

What does it mean to be proceedable?

You need to be in a position to reserve your plot on the day, so you need to bring along the relevant paperwork.

  • Need a mortgage to buy? We’ll need to see a ‘decision in principle’
  • Sold your house? We’ll need to see a ‘memorandum of sale’
  • Or if you tick both of those boxes, you’ll need to bring both documents

Can I reserve a Story home if I haven’t sold my own home?

We have two schemes available if you have a house to sell. Check out our Home Move scheme or Part Exchange scheme for a hassle-free move to your dream Story home.

You may be able to proceed without selling your home, you can speak to our panel of Independent Financial Advisors to find out more. Ask our Sales Executives for more details.

Do I need a deposit?

You’ll need £1,000 to secure your selected plot, which is then deducted from your final costs upon completion.

Let’s run through the key time frames for a new build home…

When can I reserve a new build home?

Our plots are generally released for sale nine months before the estimated completion date.

Can I reserve a new build home before it’s released for sale?

If you’ve spotted your perfect plot before it’s released for sale, you can use our Early Bird scheme to make it yours. Find out more here.

When does an Early Bird go to a full reservation?

Your Sales Executive will contact you when your Early Bird plot is released for sale to let you know the confirmed price. You can then decide whether to go ahead with the purchase.

How long after reserving will my home be ready?

Our homes usually take around nine months to be built and your Sales Executive will provide updates throughout the process. The time for each customer depends on your house type as well as which build stage your home is at when you reserve.
