Local choir sings the praises of Future Story scheme

August 2018

Carlisle Community Choir has been able to purchase a new portable keyboard, allowing them to launch a ‘Singing For Pleasure’ voluntary service thanks to support from Story Homes.

The award-winning housebuilder has made a donation as part of its ‘Future Story’ scheme, which aims to help the communities that surround its developments – in this case, a number of Story Homes’ Carlisle-based developments such as The Ridings, Aspen Grange and Priory Grange.

Thanks to its new portable keyboard, the choir is now able to visit care and nursing homes, hospitals and other community groups to perform for the sick and the elderly. Carlisle Community Choir recently used the new musical instrument to perform for residents at Pennine Lodge Care Home in Carlisle who praised the choir’s performance.

Future Story is a company-wide programme designed to support sponsorship or donation requests from charities and community organisations that surround Story Homes’ developments in Cumbria and Scotland, the North East and the North West.

Anne Hull from Carlisle Community Choir, said:

“The sponsorship from Future Story has enabled us to attend singing sessions for and with the residents in the care homes around Carlisle. It has allowed us to set up a ‘Singing For Pleasure Group’ as the keyboard is portable and gives us the freedom to sing anywhere we are needed.”

Ian Storey, Managing Director for Story Homes in Cumbria & Scotland, commented:

“The homes we build are part of wider communities, so helping charities and groups that neighbour our developments is very important to us. As a Carlisle-headquartered business it is great to be able to help an organisation such as Carlisle Community Choir which is doing fantastic work within the community and benefitting people all over our city.

“We endeavour to support local charities and organisations in ways that add long term value, and we look forward to supporting more charities and community groups around the region throughout the year.”

Story Homes is now inviting charities and community groups to apply for sponsorship or donations. The housebuilder accepts applications all year round, with a regional committee reviewing submissions on a quarterly basis. Applications should be made by completing the sponsorship form at storyhomes.co.uk/sponsorship-form.
