10 trainees promoted and a further seven hired in FY23

May 2023

As part of our ongoing commitment to investing in and developing young talent, we have recently promoted 10 of our trainee staff, as well as welcoming another seven trainees to the business.

Developing future talent has been a long-term aim for our business, and over the past 12 months, we have promoted the following individuals to the next level in their careers; five Trainee Assistant Site Managers, two Trainee Sales Executives, two Trainee Quantity Surveyors and one Trainee Engineer.

We also welcomed three Trainee Assistant Site Managers, two Trainee Sales Executives, and two Trainee Quantity Surveyors in FY23, all within the North East region.

We launched our trainee programme with the aim of recruiting the brightest and most passionate people across our regions. This programme underlines our commitment to investing in regional skills and we received a record number of applications, with the most recent recruits beating off stiff competition to secure their positions.

As a growing housebuilder, we recognise the importance of playing our part in addressing the skills shortage in the housebuilding industry, and by providing young people with sustainable positions and training programmes, this next generation of talent will help us to continue our growth and success.

Andy Bell, HR Director at Story Homes, said:

“Our ambition to deliver much needed new homes would be impossible without a new generation of talent to design, build and sell them; it is therefore our belief that investing in the future of housebuilding is vital. At Story Homes we are committed to nurturing young talent, equipping our trainees with the skills and support networks they need to build a long and successful career in the construction industry.

“Over the past 12 months we were delighted to promote 10 trainees and welcome a further seven into the business, and look forward to seeing them grow with the business and become a valuable part of the team.”

Dan Ferguson, who joined Story Homes as a trainee in the North East and was recently promoted to Assistant Quantity Surveyor, said:

“I have really enjoyed my time at Story Homes; it really feels like your part of a team and everyone is there to look out for you and help you progress. I enjoy the interaction with different people and different teams. I get to build relationships with those on site as well as the teams in the office and this makes learning and understanding the job easier as I can speak to various people to help develop my knowledge if I don’t understand something.

“Hopefully in the future I can progress through the ranks here at Story. I have team members in higher positions who I can look up to and learn from to understand what I need to do to get to that level. It is nice knowing that you are rewarded for hard-work and when you enjoy what you’re doing it makes it much easier.”

Nikita Blacklock, who joined Story Homes as a Trainee in Cumbria & Scotland and was recently promoted to Sales Executive, said:

“I have found my time at Story Homes amazing; I already knew the great reputation the business had before I applied for the job, and to work from them is even better. Everyone is so supportive and helpful with anything I may need.

“I enjoy working with all the team members as everyone is so lovely and supportive. My favourite part of the role is meeting new people on a daily basis and coming across things that I may not have had to deal with before and overcoming it, which is very rewarding.”
