Children from across the North East gathered last week to build sandcastles in the sun.
The annual Sandcastle event was held at Sandhaven Beach, South Shields and over 1,500 school children from 50 schools took part in this year’s competition. The children had one hour to build a sandcastle which had to be based on the theme ‘The Hoppings – All the fun of the fair’.
Rebecca Carr and Dan Talbot judging at Sandhaven Beach
Story Homes’ Dan Talbot, Engineer and Rebecca Carr, Marketing and Sales Coordinator (North East) attended the event as judges. Their task was to judge approximately 30 sandcastles and to decide upon a winner from their group.
Dan said: “It was such a brilliant event and it was obvious that the children had put enormous effort in to designing and sculpting their sandcastles. You could see that everyone was really enjoying themselves and taking the challenge very seriously!

The event is supported by many local and national businesses and is organised by the charity, Children North East, whose vision is for children across the region to be given a happy childhood and fulfilling future.
